The J’s are John Sylvester and Julie McNicholls Vale.
Keyboard player John has been in a variety of bands and was the Musical Director for many Castaway theatre productions at Aberystwyth Arts Centre. He met Julie McNicholls Vale through those shows, and they formed a long-standing musical partnership, delighting audiences with a range of pop, rock and showtime classics.
Julie is also known for being an original member of Elinor Powell’s Sgarmes, with whom she has appeared on BBC One’s ‘Pitch Battle’, one half of girl group The Hornettes: Take Two, and a regular performer in the Wardens’ pantomimes.
Julie and John perform in and around Ceredigion and look forward to supporting the summer season show.

The Hornettes Take Two have performed across England and Wales, singing huge hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s.
They bring their beehive wigs and sequin dresses to Aberystwyth Arts Centre to celebrate the summer and support ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
Join them for some fun, nostalgia, comedy, singing and dancing.
With a repertoire of songs from the Supremes, The Four Tops, Lulu, The Shirelles, The Ronettes and more, The Hornettes will have you singing along in no time.

Alex is a long-time member of Elinor Powell’s Sgarmes and was privileged to perform with them on BBC One’s ‘Pitch Battle’. He is well-known to Aberystwyth Arts Centre audiences for his many appearances in the Wardens’ pantomimes playing lead roles including Prince Charming in ‘Cinderella’, the Beast in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and in the 2025 production of ‘Dick Whittington’.
Alex’s repertoire ranges from classic pop/rock to current hits and musical theatre songs.

Thursday Nights

John Sylvester and Julie McNicholls Vale will lead some of the cast and crew of ‘Wizard of Oz’ in post-show cabaret nights on Thursday the 15th, 22nd and 29th of August (at approximately 9.30pm)

Join them in the upstairs bar from approximately 9.30pm for ‘Emerald City Nights’ – an evening of well-known songs.
