These two and three-dimensional oil paintings on wood create a forest of colour in which to consider the hidden story of trees. Using windfall wood donated by the National Trust, following Storm Arwen, as well as from Crete and Ynys Mon, the exhibition presents a unique opportunity to consider ideas of colour, shape, form and space.
John works with various sustainably sourced types of wood using a form of mapping, to tell the hidden story of a tree through a deep understanding of colour and the use of precious metals. He brings an awareness of the history of the tree it came from: its type, shape, markings and the impact of its location.
