INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY OPPORTUNITY – MAGNETIC 3
The call for applications for the third round of Fluxus Magnetic international Visual Arts residencies in France and in the UK is still open! Deadline: 15th of July 2024.
Following previous iterations with eight international partners and a total of 17 supported artists in two years, in 2024, Magnetic is expanding its network to two more residencies in Paris and London.
Magnetic is a joint Franco-UK initiative under the umbrella of Fluxus Art Projects that brings together ten institutions to create a network of artist residencies in French regions and UK nations.
Each residency is based on a tandem partnership between a French region and a UK nation. We are very pleased that Wales, Aberystwyth Arts Centre is partnered with Brittany, Frac Bretagne in Rennes once again.
We are looking for 2 artists, 1 based in Brittany to take part in the residency here in Wales, and 1 based in Wales to take part in the residency in Brittany.
The other 4 tandems will associate CAPC in Bordeaux/Nouvelle-Aquitaine with Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridge/England, Frac Grand Large in Dunkirk/Hauts-de-France with Flax Art Studios in Belfast/Northern Ireland, Villa Arson in Nice/Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur with Cove Park/Scotland and Bétonsalon in Paris/Île-de-France with Gasworks in London/England.
Societal and environmental issues are at the heart of the programme: the residencies are bespoke to each host institution and their immediate locality, where the artists are invited to respond to specific geographical, historical, social, or artistic contexts.
Artists will receive a threshold monthly fee of 2500 € / £ 2100, as well as curatorial mentoring. Each two months residency will be tailor-made in discussion with the institutions’ curatorial teams, providing the artist with international networking opportunities throughout their stay. Artists will be provided with accommodation and access to a work space.
The residencies will start in November 2024.
If you wish to apply, we ask for an artistic proposal outlining the relevance and singularity of your practice and research interests within the context and focus of the host institution you are eligible to apply for. In addition, a short text demonstrating your motivation for applying to an international residency at this point in your career and the benefits it will bring.
The Magnetic 3 lureate artists will be announced beginning of October 2024.
