Angharad Pearce Jones has worked in steel for over 30 years and in her largest solo show to date, she re-works an installation originally constructed in her own home during Lockdown.
The work stems from the artist’s perception of increasing divisions in society following the 2016 Brexit referendum and whilst Angharad is enthralled by her chosen material’s capacity to either incarcerate, divide or protect, she is also fascinated by its capacity to implode, distort and break down, represented in meticulous re-constructions of scenes of impact.
These incidental artworks are the result of seven years of documentation of twisted and imploded gates and railings, each with its own narrative, that only those who witnessed the original impact will ever know.
Angharad Pearce Jones is a Blacksmith, Sculptor and Installation artist, based in West Wales. She attended the renowned 3D Design and Craft BA (Hons) at Brighton University in the early 90s before completing an MA in Fine Art at Cardiff Art School.As well as her artistic practice, Angharad applies her metal fabrication skills to civic regeneration projects, creating props for TV and film, gates and railings for the construction industry and public sculpture. She has exhibited regularly both in the UK and abroad and was the principle designer for ‘Wales at The Smithsonian Festival’ in Washington DC, in 2009.More recently, she worked as assistant to Egyptian artist Anna Boghiguian, on her latest installations for The Artes Mundi Prize and Tate St Ives respectively.
